Summary:
The IUCN has previously focused on assessing the conservation status of species for its Red List (those species most in danger of extinction). But with climate change an increasing threat to species worldwide, they are now predicting which species will be hardest hit, in order to facilitate 'pre-emptive conservation'.
In October 2008, the IUCN released their results of which species, and where, are 'climate change susceptible'. The initial results indicate that between 25% and 51% of birds, amphibians and corals are not currently threatened but could be as temperatures rise.
