Choosing a Location

When defining the Location, you have two choices:

  • 1. Add a new Location (Create Location) or
  • 2. Use an existing Location (Choose Location).

Adding a New Location

You can search the map for a location. Enter your new Location Name using the text box at the top of the map. When you have the location that you desire, you click on the location in the map to define a new location at that point. Having entered the name of the location it is saved and added to the map.

Using an Existing Location

You click on any of the marker points on the map which gives you the options to:

  • Change the name of the location

Choosing an Indicator Species

You can choose or search for a species here. You are presented with the list of Indicator Species. You can search by species and/or region and/or season and/or month. You then select the relevant indicator species from this list. By clicking on the species link you will then see a detailed Fact Sheet for that species. There is a printable Field Guide for you to take into the field.

  • When reviewing data, registered ClimateWatchers are presented with a map of the Locations in which they have entered Records.
  • The Results for a Location will be displayed beneath the map.
  • Through the map window and through the summary table you can click on each Location or Record to see the details of it.
  • Registered users can also view records from other users within ClimateWatch, and are able to find out more information about these records.

Reviewing Records (Insecure)

  • If a visitor is not signed into ClimateWatch they can review data in a similar fashion to a user that is signed in, but cannot edit these records.
  • An unregistered user can review data by location or by species.
  • If the user is interested in a species they:
    • Choose a region that they are interested in (to get a listing of region specific indicator species)
    • Choose an indicator species of interest
    • Map displays points of the locations where the selected species was recorded.
    • If the user is interested in a location they:
      • Choose a region
      • Map zooms to that region and displays the point locations
      • Each location can be clicked on to provide species listings for that location beneath the map.
    • As this is an insecure view of the data, unregistered users are unable to edit or download data. This restriction is aimed at encouraging people to register to become a ClimateWatcher.
