The Hornsby Bushcare Program volunteers join up with ClimateWatch as a group of ‘citizen scientists' to start recording species in this Sydney region.

Community groups, schools and individuals are encouraged to get involved by observing plant and animal species and  then recording them here.

The Hornsby Bushcare Program is designed to provide a structured and supportive framework to integrate the community with the management of bushland. Members of the community concerned with the declining health of their local bushland are able to play an active role in bushland rehabilitation.

 "Our Bushcare volunteer program of over 850 registered volunteers through Hornsby Shire Council can assist ClimateWatch with your collection of data for the indicator species" said Danielle Sutton, Bushland Community Programs Coordinator at Hornsby Shire.

"These Bushcare community volunteers work on over 130 different sites across the Shire. From Brooklyn in the north, Glenorie in the west, and Epping in the south, Bushcare groups are helping protect and restore natural bushland areas for the whole community. "

Hornsby Shire covers a total of 51,000 hectares of which approximately 67% is bushland, making the opportunity for bushwalking and natural experiences enormous.
